Incorporated in 1988, Silverado Land Corp. was formed when
two local business partners purchased an 805 acre parcel of
land from Fletcher Challenge Ltd. Outside the boundaries of
the City of Courtenay, the land had, for many years, been
part of Crown Zellerbach’s tree farm license. With its
proximity to the growing City of Courtenay, the development
potential of the land was a recognized by Silverado.
Recognizing that golf was becoming much more popular with
the mainstream population, after many market studies, it was
determined that the best use of the property would be to create
a residential golf course community.
Deriving it's name from the previous owner (Crown Zellerbach),
coupled with the Island location, the name Crown Isle became
official. The development forged ahead and the back nine holes
of the championship golf course opened in the summer of 1992,
with the front nine opening in the summer of 1993.
The initial phase of residential homesites were also under
development. The Spring of 1998 saw the opening of the much
anticipated 48,000 sq. ft. Resort Centre and first phase of
the Villas at Crown Isle. All the while, development continued
on single and multi-family homes, home-sites, Villas, and
commercial projects.
Future phases of this 831-acre development include more residential
home-sites, village centre, congregate care facility, shopping
centre, Villas, Lodge & Spa.
